Labor & Civil Rights Litigation
CRLAF ensures that the rights of farm workers, immigrants and other low-wage workers are respected in rural California through impact litigation and appellate advocacy. Attorneys Julia Montgomery and Shannon Going form CRLAF’s Litigation Unit, guided by Litigation Coordinator Cynthia Rice.
CRLAF has represented workers in several class actions recovering unpaid minimum wages, contract wages, overtime, split shift pay, premium pay for missed rest breaks and meal periods, reimbursements for work tools and related penalties.
We have also represented workers in cases involving unlawful retaliation for exercising labor rights, violations of H-2A work visa contracts, WARN Act violations (requiring advance notice of plant closure to workers) and substandard employee housing.
Our advocacy on behalf of victims of sexual harassment and other unlawful discrimination has resulted in large monetary recoveries and improved employment practices.
We regularly file amicus curiae briefs bringing the voice of low-wage workers to courts considering important labor and civil rights issues.
