Description of CRLAF Program/Areas of Expertise:
The California Rural Legal Assistance Foundation provides community outreach and education, public policy advocacy, litigation support, and technical and legal assistance for California’s rural poor. CRLAF targets its work in the areas of agricultural workers’ health, civil & human rights, education, employment, immigration, labor, pesticides, rural housing, and worker safety.
Services Offered:
Consultation: Telephone, appointment, e-mail, and mail.
CRLAF advocates are available for consultation on issues affecting rural poor clients between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Information Services: Subscription newsletter and website.
CRLAF’s Affordable Housing project puts out “Framing the Issues,” a weekly e-newsletter that provides up-to-the-minute information on state housing legislation, issue analysis, special alerts, and political updates. To subscribe, please contact Brian Augusta at 916-446-9241 or

Representation: Advice, co-counseling, and full representation.
CRLAF attorneys are available for advice and counsel, co-counseling, and full representation of clients in immigration, labor and employment, and worker safety issues.
Training: Periodic, as needed, and onsite available.

Special Assistance: CRLAF’s Pesticide and Work Safety Project can provide assistance in evaluating work and environmental pesticide exposure hazards and other workplace health and safety hazards. Anne Katten has extensive experience researching pesticide toxicity, pesticide use records and pesticide and work safety laws and regulations and evaluating injury and illness investigations and drinking water quality reports.
