UN experts denounce 'myth' pesticides are necessary to feed the world

"[P]esticides are responsible for an estimated 200,000 acute poisoning deaths each year," with farmworkers, their families, and surrounding communities experiencing the greatest risk of exposure.  

 

In a recently issued report, the United Nations denounces as "myth" the idea that pesticide use is necessary to ensure sufficient global food production, an excuse often used to delay phase out of harmful pesticides and development and implementation of worker protections.
