CRLAF's AB 636

CA Assembly Passes CRLAF Sponsored Bill to Advance Worker Safety

For the second time in 2 years, the state Assembly passed AB 978 (Limón), legislation requiring employers to provide current workers, and their authorized representatives, with a copy of their employer’s complete Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP). (CRLAF's previous bill, AB 2895 died on the Senate floor last August.)

In December 2016, the Division of Occupational Safety and Health reported that "Nearly half of the victims of workplace fatalities (46%) in 2015 were Latinos." Additionally, fatality rates among farmworkers doubled in 2015 (most recent data available).

Effective communication with workers has been documented to be critical to successful injury and illness prevention in the workplace, which is why access to workplace IIPPs is critical.
