CRLAF's AB 636

Victories in the House! American Dream + Promise Act + Farm Workforce Modernization Act

On March 18th, the House of Representatives passed the American Dream and Promise Act and the Farm Workforce Modernization Act, both of which CRLA Foundation strongly supports. Our communities have waited a long time for immigration reform, and both of these bills give us hope for our clients and immigrant families throughout the country.

Although the bills face an uncertain future in the Senate, we will continue to strongly support the on-going national efforts to finally offer a path to citizenship for both Dreamers and undocumented farm workers. The passage of these bills by the House is a step in the right direction, and we at CRLA Foundation will continue to advocate for positive changes to our immigration system and laws to bring justice for immigrant communities.

Both of these bills had previously passed the House in 2019, only to die in the Republican-controlled Senate, which is why we caution our clients that the current bills have a long way to go before they are signed into law. We strongly urge the Senate to quickly act and vote to pass both the American Dream and Promise Act and the Farm Workforce Modernization Act.

CRLA Foundation also recognizes that we must continue fighting on behalf of all immigrant communities. While we rejoice at the possibility of these bills, Congress must take action to enact comprehensive and inclusive immigration reform for all undocumented immigrants in our country. At CRLA Foundation, as the sons and daughters of immigrants and farmworkers, we believe justice and dignity are inalienable human rights, and we will not stop pursuing these goals for all, regardless of immigration status.
