Honoring the Life & Legacy Of Dolores Huerta

Our CRLAF familia mourns the passing and celebrates the eternal legacy of Dolores Huerta, a pillar of the farmworker movement and a visionary architect of our collective ecosystem. As an organization dedicated to the legal protection, dignity, and self-determination of farmworkers, we stand on the shoulders of her decades of tireless organizing and her unyielding belief that ¡Sí, se puede!

Dolores Huerta was a keen strategist who understood that true justice for farmworkers requires a holistic approach. She recognized early on that legal victories in the courts required power built from the ground up. Through her organizing, first at the Community Service Organization, at the United Farm Workers, and for the last 25 years at the Dolores Huerta Foundation, she fundamentally shifted the landscape of labor and civil rights in America, and built a beautiful, connected, and inclusive vision of justice.

Dolores reflected the power of our client communities and elevated their voices through her organizing. She generously shared her time, energy, and care with generations of women - from our grandmothers to our daughters - and transformed their experiences of marginalization to power and solutions.

As a legal services organization, our work follows the pathways she cleared. Every piece of impact litigation we fight and every workplace safety standard we uphold is rooted in the strategic framework Dolores Huerta championed. She taught us that legal advocacy must always be paired with community organizing and power building, because it is our clients and our communities closest to the problems who have the solutions.

While her physical presence will be profoundly missed, her spirit is woven into the very fabric of our movement. Dolores Huerta’s legacy is our roadmap. We commit ourselves daily to her holistic vision to defend farmworkers in the courtroom and to actively nurture, support, and fortify the interconnected ecosystem of organizations, communities, and workers striving for justice in the fields and rural communities of California.

We extend our deepest condolences to her family, her loved ones, and with the millions of people she inspired, we grieve and celebrate.

¡Dolores Huerta, Presente!
